CMR institute of technology admission takes place as direct admissions and under management quota. As the college is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University. The college takes direct admission in the counselling after the COMEDK /CET tests.
For UG programme, the admission happens based on the COMEDK/CET scores. Once the candidate passes the entrance examination, the Karnataka government will release the ranks and the eligible colleges as per the rankings. If the student is qualified enough for the admission, the student can apply for the government counselling and select the CMRIT college.
For the PG programme, the students with the eligible criteria of a bachelor's degree with minimum 45% marks aggregate can appear for any postgraduate masters entrance test like PGCET, GATE, MAT, CMAT or equivalent exams for appearing in the counselling arranged by Karnataka Government to get an admission in the CMRIT.
